The Diploma

Three modules, one diploma.

Each module is assessed in its own way and can be taken on its own or as part of an integrated programme. Together they build a complete, advanced grounding in the theory and practice of English language teaching.

Module 1

Understanding language, methodology & resources for teaching

Terminology, language analysis, learner and contextual issues, methodology, materials and assessment — the theoretical foundation of advanced teaching.

AssessmentWritten examination — two papers. Offered twice a year.
Module 2

Developing professional practice

A practical module centred on your own teaching — a professional development assignment and a series of assessed lessons that evidence your growth in the classroom.

AssessmentCoursework portfolio + observed, assessed teaching.
Module 3

Extending practice & ELT specialism — or ELT management

Specialise in a chosen area of teaching, or choose the English Language Teaching management pathway to prepare for academic-leadership roles.

AssessmentExternally marked extended assignment, 4,000–4,500 words.
Take them your way. Modules can be taken separately or as an integrated programme, in any order. A Cambridge certificate is awarded for each module, and the full Cambridge DELTA Diploma once all three are passed.
